General Ulysse gears

I have an S Reg Ulysse I have problems with the gear stick. Initially it got stuck in one gear and the gear stick was just loosely moving around. We took it to a garage to get it fixed and they siad that something had come loose and they just pushed it back on and said it might come loose again. When driving home the gears just totally stopped and the car would not move. Unfortunatel the garage had closed and we did not find out what they had pushed back (Thinking it was fixed). Does anyone have any ideas as to waht is the problem and how this could be fixed?
