Hi,

have a 2003/4 Ulysse 2.2 Eleganza. Went to start the car and the thing was dead except the head lights came on. Radio worked and it cranked over, but no central locking and no ignition lights at all. It has been to the Fait dealer who did a quick diagnostic and said it was dead and could be any one of 5 units or the ECU, or the cabling etc. It was fine the night before and the breakdown people did fing that the negative bat terminal had come loose. I want to get the ECU tested, but the twsters ned to know the model number. Any idea where i can find the ECU. The vehicle has been rescued from the dealer as he were charging £90 an hour and all they checked was the fuses and pluged the diag tol in whch told them very little.

I need to get the ECU out so i can send it for testing but have no idea where it is.

Thanks

R

Hello. If you download the elearn manual from this site and burn it to cd it will tell you all you need to know. Who knows you might fix it yourself and save £££££'s.

Hi and thank you for that information. I have now downloaded the Elearning manual and I'm getting to grps with the content. One thing it has enlightend me on is that the thing I'm looking for is called the body computer, but is this the ECU or another device somewhere else?

I'll continue reading, but if you know where i can find the body computer then please advise.

Thanks again.

Regards

Richard

if you look at Procedures/electrical equipment/instrument gauge electrical circuits/multi function components/body computer.

You will see that there is an illustration showing its location, which to me looks like its in the front of the car either passenger or driver side at knee level.

Hi and thanks again. I have located and removed the body computer using your advice and eLearning CD also the ECU and the fuse box with the rear circuit board. Now all I have to do is find a way of getting them tested. I'm in contact with a couple of ECU tsting firms and I'm just waiting to hear if they can test this particular ECU. Although this is a standard Bosch ECU it's the C2 variant that may be an issue (apparently). Getting the board computer and fuse box system tested may be more difficult. There are so many thngs not working on the vehicle and so many that do work it all points towards a central unit failure. But is the central unit the board computer or the ECU when it comes to command and control of the ignition lights, mileage reading, on board computer, central locking, alarm etc etc.
My local Fiat dealer isn't too helpful, they just want me to give them the car and let them fix it. They can't give me any idea of cost which is like giving them a blank cheque.
I'm going to see if Fiat have a testing department that I can send the board computer and fuse panel to.

Here's hoping :)

you may be better off trying a local citroen dealer they seem to know a lot more about these cars . the ulysse is a citroen with fiat badges !!!!

Hi Richard, let us know how you get on.

I have just rebuilt the engine in a 2003 ulysse 2.0 16v jtd following cambelt failure. I had real problems removing the injectors and had to make a tool to extract them. The engine is rebuilt but the injectors are not firing and i think that the ecu needs programming because each injector is coded to the ecu. I have an elm 327 interface which i use to read fault codes on other cars but it will not communicate with this ullysee using the software that i usually use. I have downloaded proplus and i will give that a try tomorrow so fingers crossed. i am thinking of buying a kwp2000 plus which is used to remap the ncm under the bonnet. This controls the injection sytem and can be remapped to improve performance and economy. I am a mechanic but i am reluctant to involve the main dealers simply because they are far too expensive and just like to fit parts in a process of elimination sequence until they hit on the correct part that remedies the problem.

If anyone knows of any software that will work with an elm327 interface and will communicate with the fiat ullysee can you please post the details.

Thanks

Andy

:) Hi just a thought Have you checked the fuse box under the bonnet (drivers side) for water ingress? Common problem stops alot from working.(engine imobiliser fault etc) Take it out split it open you will see if waters been getting in by the circuit board condition. Good luck

Hi all and thanks for your advice.

Here's the story to date. ECU man thinks it to be unlikely to be the ECU as it would not prevent to ignition lights coming on and lead to central locking issues. Kinda make sense.

Fiat dealer offered to spend another 3 to 4 hours running diagnostics to try and locate the issue, but warned that they may need to resort to swapping out the individual parts until they find the one or ones that are faulty.

From our previous experiences we have had issues with the board computer and fuse box with water ingress due to a design defect in the windscreen drain that allows it to become unattached and drain water onto the fusebox instead of the inner wheel arch - this was discovered and addressed under warranty first time round.

Now for the real bummer, the car failed just as we were about to go on holiday to France in it, phew!!! it went before we left and not while we were away, but the Fiat dealer (having taken an initial look and been unable to resolve) were good to us and said they would leave it in their service yard and we could make a decision on what to do when we got back, which we thought was very good as it failed the day before we left and we spent the rest of our time changing all the documentation to my Saab.

Now, while we were away the heavens opened up in the UK and unfortuneatly the dealership had not put the windscreen drain back after removing the fuse cover and had not replaced the fuse cover either. End result is that the fuse box filled with rain water and sat there for the duration of our holiday.

When we got back some friends recommended a local mechanic who was good and not £82 an hour (like the dealership) and would be able to look and check the basics.

He has come back to us and told us (with photographic evidence) that the fusebox and the associated electronic panel underneath is shot as the corrosion is excessive from the amount of water he poured out of it. At least 6-8 fuses are corroded and there is some kind of regulator device that is likewise badly corroded where it has sat in water.

I'll let you know how it get on wiht the dealership on this one and how much this fusebox is going to cost to replace, but i get the feeling the dealership will not want to accept any responsibility for this as they were doing us a favour???

Does anyone know if the Ulysse 2.0 JTD board computer is the same as the 2.2 JTD. they look identical and have the same fuse layout, but i know from experience that looks can be very deceiving especailly when it comes to a programmed unit.

Thnaks all.

Richard
