OK, so I've got a much cherished Ulysse, that has suddenly decided not to start. I've owned her since she was six months old, and in 14 years, from 2000 as a nearly new X reg, we have travelled more than 162,000 miles. It's a great car, and I don't want to lose her!!

Here's the rub. About a month ago the coil pack had gone US, the second in 14 years, and I fitted a new one. No problem. She ran real smooth, and returns about 38 mpg overall average. Two weeks ago I was visiting the hospital for some tests. She drove beautifully. On the way into the hospital I went through a deep puddle. I pulled up to the barrier and she cut out, but re-started on first turn of the key. I parked. 1½ hours later I returned, but start she would not. I had to get towed home.

I've had the fuel pipes off, and petrol arrives at the injector rail. So the pump is OK.

I've had the crank case sensor off, cleaned it, put it back in and she registers the engine turning over on the starter.

I've had the dual main relay off. There was water inside the connector, so I've swapped the relay, and when the key is turned I can feel the relays operating. I've had the ECU off, and the inside of the box is spotless. The connectors were wet, but I've dried them and they are clean. She's got platinum plugs, and they look good.

I've had a sparky check the immobiliser, and his kit says it is OK.

Since she 'died', twice she has turned over and run beautifully, enough to warm her right up. First time she refused to start, so I went through all the 'repairs' again. Following day with a full battery charge she started again. But after turning off she has refused to start.

Now, the best I get, is when I turn the key, she turns over, splutters as though she is about to start then dies. Next turn of the key, she just turns over. Leave it a couple of minutes and she splutters again. Just like she is getting a drip of fuel but not enough to start and run.

Any ideas?
