Been having a bit of trouple recently, intermittent juddering when pulling away in 1st (new clutch 10 weeks ago in Jan), intermittently loosing revs & power which most times return nearly instantly but sometimes engine dies, turn key and she runs OK for a while, idle sometimes goes high, seems to be when its cold out.

After looking thro' forum decided to clean idle control valve last Sunday, removed & cleaned what I think is the IDC, started car & went for short run, no difference.

Left car till Wednesday when she would not start, engine turning over fine but not firing, called home breakdown service. When they arrived 3 hrs later turned key and she fired 1st time, tried another 6 times all OK, mechanic said, could be damp due to the bad weather (had heavy rain on & off since Sunday).

Last night went out, turned key and started 1st time, revs upto 3000 and down to 1000 on idle, drove about a mile and she died on me. Turns over but not firing like on Wednesday, called breakdown service and they could not get her to start so dragged me home.

But battery on charge over night and have tried her again this morning, turns over fine but wont start.

Can any one help and or provide any suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Kevin

The only time and revs changed from 1000 to 3000 to 1000 ect was when I changed the idle valve. This was fixed by disconnecting then reconnecting the ECU. At the same time it is worth checking the pins on the ECU for signs of dirt/rust and clean pins if ness. Also on the connecter to the ECU one or more of the spring clips which make contact with the pins might be slightly slack thus not getting a good connection.

The Ecu I guess is like digi boxes (freeview/sky) as in some faults can be fixed by disconnecting the power to the device for a short time.

Good luck!

Donald,

Thanks for info will try this in the morning, did get her to start once late this afteroon but she died after about a minute and has not run since.

Donald,
Thought my luck was in, as found some oxidisation on pin 35 of ECU which also looked like it may have bridged to pin 34 on plug. Cleaned both and checked clips which all looked OK, refitted ECU but she still will not fire.

Think I will check petrol feed to confirm its getting to carb, anyone suggest best/easiest place to check this without having to trace pipework from tank?

Thanks
Kevin

Just got Uly back from garage (not main dealer), problem was diagnosed as main relay that worked with ECU, thats why I had no spark and no fuel to injectors. The auto electrician had cleaned up the connectors and had car running but recommended replacing relay as he was unsure how reliable the clean up would be. Garage had to order part from Fiat which took 3 days for delivery and then less than 10 minutes to change out.
