Hi guys and girls

A question for all you 100hp owners out there, have you checked your front tyres!!! i only say this because i was looking round mine the other day when i noticed the inside edge of my front tyres was damn near bald!!!! but the rest if the tyre had roughly 3-4mm, just wondering if im the only one with this ? my little beastie has only covered 7.5k ( but i do drive it hard on the odd trip )

And if any of you have changed your tyres what make have you changed them for ?

Thanks

Damien

I think i have a camber issue, but i just want to judge your responses first.

Been discussed loads on here. Common problem with all Pandas. Need to get your wheel alignment sorted...

Thanks for the reply

I will definatly check my tracking when i change my tyres, but i cant recall any of the pandas that ive seen of late having tyres wear this bad for this amount of miles, although i have not seen any other 100hp's, yet i know theres another black one kicking around here, so ill wait for it to come in for service i guess and check there's.

I'll just put it down to the way i drive i guess, and the obscene amount of pot holes that ive encountered.

Checked mine the other day, its done just under 2,500 miles, wear seems to be even with 7-8mm of tread left all round, going to keep an eye out for uneven wear to see if its worth gettin the tracking checked

Put my MJT in for its 3 year service last week and it failed its MOT on rear tyre wear. I swapped tyres front to rear at about 20K miles. According to the garage the N/S/R was down to 1.5 on one side (standard fit 165 Contis) I checked them myself a few weeks before and IMO that tyre was down to 3mm on the outside edge. Otherwise they were within 1mm all the way across each tyre with an extra 2mm on the fronts.
But, and it's a BIG BUT, the car was starting to slide quite a bit more since the tyres have worn down so replacing them was a good move, but I was disappointed in how the roadholding deteriorated.
After taking some advice, I decided to go up a size (on factory 5J alloys) and had Avon 175/65R 14s fitted. Initially, there is quite a significant improvement in grip. Will let everybody know how they progress.

Just an aftertought, when I had the new rubber fitted, I was talking to one of the fitters about wheel alignment and he told me that some Lexus IS200s had exhibited extremely uneven tyre wear. So extreme that in 2,000 miles some tyres were showing 6mm on one edge, but only 2mm on the other. This is apparently down to the amount of toe-in dialled into the front suspension to help it turn in more quickly.
Ouch!

doesn't usually show till a few K more on the clock, my current panda looked fine on 2200 miles when I bought it, nearer nine and the inner driver's side tyre was bald. Had the same wear, but on both tyres, on my old panda, fiat still refuse to admit theres an issue there, and apparently theres no other 'instances of this problem on the system'

bring back my 13 year old cinq on lowering springs, never had any tracking issues in the 16000 miles I drove that:slayer:

6,000 miles on mine. Measured the front tread with a depth gauge, 3.5mm inside edge 4mm outside edge.

Maybe it depends how the tracking was done at the factory, or how many potholes are in the road beween the ferries and the holding terminal.

Ive done 20000miles on my panda sporting fitted with 15" wheels and yes the insides have been worn to near nothing yet the outside is very legal. It looks like it needs tracking!!!!, it does wander about abit on the road and does pull a bit to the left on mine.(its good to hear im not the only one):slayer:

The thing with tracking problems is that it's virtually impossible to prove if they were set incorrectly at the factory. A good clout on a pothole, bad angle up a big kerb or other sort of bump/jolt can throw the tracking out in everyday driving.

Not suggesting that Panda owners are like this, but some people have no idea about how to drive - if dealers accepted problems for tracking they would spend all day giving away free tyres.

We have an early new panda in our family. Back tyres wear unevenly, and dealers (2 of them) insist that tracking is ok. Its now out of warranty so will get it adjusted by an independent if possible, although Ive heard that no adjustment is possible because of design. Can this be right?

Hi, Damiem, Just looking at your remark on your panda 100hp tyre wear, Well must I say mine has just gone in for first service at 7057 miles on clock. I have had a call from dealer to tell me my front tyres need replacing as they have scrubbed out on the insides, the front drivers side bald and passenger side not quite as a bad but illegal . The car still as new the tracking is ok it has been ckecked by garage. So my arguement but why? and that I DONT EXPECT to replace tyres at 7000 miles . I have been told it is the speed bumps where I live, have u heard anything like it ? so I replied all cars where I live have bald tyres do they? The garage is replacing one tyre but not the other and that is a good will jesture. I have been told that the tracking is within the fiats tolorances. But I am going to take it up with Fiat, did you get yours replaced with warrenty ? jackie

I've had tracking/wheel alignment done multiple times to perfection and yet its still causing uneven wear to the front tyres (i.e. front left wears out faster than front right) - what could be causing it?

Well i checked my tracking and its fine as is my camber caster etc etc, but basically in order to get the car to handle as well as it does the suspension must be setup in such a way that unfortunatly it promotes early tyre wear! it suck's but its exactly the same as most of the alfa and fiat range.

And i have not replaced the tyres yet! i still have a few wheel spins left in them yet!!! as for what make of tyre next hmmmmm, well to be honest im considering changing the car..... im smitten by the 500!!! so i may just change the car not the tyres...

Sorry reply bringing up old news but my Sporting has also ruined 2 sets of tyres due to inside baldness,4.5mm on 3/4 of tyre but naff all inside, standard 165 and also 195 also had tracking done twice and all is ok so like you say must be down to camber settings, hope this is not going to be an issue on my new 100hp.

I have this "issue" with my G Punto got phone call from the stealers (whilst in for service) and they tried the your front tires are badly worn on the inside edge saying that they are illegal however been the switched on tight fisted yorkshire man that i am knew that there was between 1.8 and 2 mm on the inside edge (my uncle used to work for Bush tires and gave me a depth gage)and told them so.. next thing he's trying to cut a deal with the usual they are normally £100 each but today we can do them for £80 each  for a set of B.stone 250's just managed to play Kwick fit off against another local tyre firm and get a pair for £108 all in + £25 for tracking That sealed it for me Not going back there Fair enough if he'd told me they were getting low on tread and advised on replacements but to come out with the "illegal" word playing scare tactics they can F.R.O.

think a lot has to do with the dual drive PAS to be honest allowing you to dry steer without realizing to a point...

Hi Everyone!
I dont have a Panda yet as im waiting patiently on the multijet 4x4 to be released in September but just thought i'd throw in my tuppence worth on the tyre issue.. I too have had problems with my last car.. and forgive me but the only reason im mentioning it on here is to slate it.. My Ford Mondeo Zetec Sport. 18 inch rims with 225/40 tyres... 80 quid a pop each! The car was wearing them to the wire on the inside every 8 - 10,000 miles. Same as you guys, got the alignment checked, not a problem... i'm told its only something either a laser four wheel alignment centre or a ford garage could sort out. However, much the same as Fiat, Ford say they dont have a problem and i'm told that to sort the cars handling at the factory the cars are set with their toe in too far adjusted which absolutely destroys tyres. The only option that the tyre guy gave me as im one of his best customers now is that to guage how many miles a set of tyres were lasting me then call in when they were half worn to get them changed to the other side of the car i.e. so that they willthen wear tothe inside at the drivers side of the car instead of the passengers side. At least it would give you a bit more mileage out of them!

This is what i did sent the wife to local garage asked them to swop front left front with front right so i could then wear out the outside now on the inside, ok i am an ADI so i should have known better 3/4 of the centre of the tyre 1.6mm no cuts or bulges etc etc, but tyre fitter said yes they are ok, but when you turn up for test and outside edge looks nearly bald it makes you think twice, so new set of wheels and tyres purchased cheaper than replacing the 16s i had fitted, also a lot of people are now asking us to change at 3mm if you see independent stopping tests in the wet you will know what i mean. (but thats another story)
