TYRE suggestions

hola all,
I'm after 4 new tyres, changing from the over priced 185/55 to 195/50 and I was wondering if anyone can justify a particular brand or type I should go for.
I'm looking to spend about £150 - 170 inc VAT + Delivery. Fitting, etc i'll deal with later.

Quote 1: Pirelli P6000 195/50/15 V x 4 = 153.60.

All advice appreciated.

i like the vredesteins i have, nice rain profile, grip seems fine and they seem to be lasting well. 185/60/R14 i think, £38 each all in. I have the hi-traks shown here;

as a generalisation from past experience i also liked Yoko's, i didnt like pirelli or firestone as i found the grip was poor and the life was short in comparison to vredestein or yoko's.

i've got 195/55/15 pirelli 6000's (expensive) but i think they're a pretty good tyre for grip in dry and wet!

Alan, cheers. I'm looking at the vredstein sportrac 2 for £41.30 on mytyres.co.uk (thanks Dan) but they are a bit pricey for me. I'm rapidly running out of tread so need to make a decision soon.
Most reviews say the Pirelli is a good tyre except for the fast wear.

i think £38 all in per tyre is cheap! That price includes a valve, fittting and balancing! Most places charge a tenner extra for that!

Guess you've just gotta try some and see what you think!

hmm, i found the wear to be good on my pirelli's, i got 20,000 miles out of my first set (on the front) the rears are still going strong with lots of tread, so i guess that although they are expensive, they last longer i guess

20,000 miles is amazing for pirelli, i only got 8000 when i tried them!

yeah they were really good, the valve went on one of them but only when they were ready to be changed, that's the thing, they were good for my car so i didn't mind spending the extra cos at least i know i'm getting a good tyre.

I have Pirelli P5000 Drago's all round on mine. Decent grip but wear down pretty quick

Do you really need such expensive tyres on a Bravo ? Isn't it a bit of a waste of money ?

I'm sure the cheaper offerings work well enough for normal road use. Or are you lucky enough to live in Scotland, and can enjoy car free roads with loads of cool corners ?

i still think £38 or £45 for a tyre is cheap, both those prices include fitting, valve and balancing. don't see how you can get much cheaper!!!

generally, if you buy budget tyres you shouldn't expect them to last long, if you buy more expensive tyres, they generally last longer and perform better!

we had this discussion on here a while back, and i think it was tom who said that we should put a decent tyre on, even just to know that when you brake hard you will stop quicker, and won't skid for as long as you would on a lesser quality tyre - one day it could be the difference between hitting a pedestrian and not hitting one!

thanks for all the replies.

I went for the vredstien Sportrac 2 @ £41.60 each.
They go tvery good ratings in the wet and dry, quiet on the interior and the wear was excellent. As Dan said, i'd rather pay out a decent amount and be able to rely on them when the time comes, and it will.
Thought to treat the car anyway since there is a total brand mismatch on there at the mo.

I'll let you know what they are like when fitted.

I would go with goodyears if you can afford them. Just got 4 Hydra grip I think they are called, very good in dry excellent in the wet.

Cost £200 inc fitting.
