after searching the forum i've decided to ask...

i'm just wondering which size tyre would be the best to fit to a 17" x 7" wheel?

im thinking low profile like 215/40 but i've heard someone say that 205's will fit, not entirely sure so i thought id ask the superior knowledge that is the boo forum!

all i really need is a bit of sidewall to protect the rim a bit...

cheers

You'll get away with 215/40 if you want more rubber between you and road but a less accurate speedo. Otherwise to keep the speedo more or less accurate and to have less rubber between you and road then go for 205/40's which is a standard size tyre for 17's. I'm rolling on 215/40 Hankook Tyres.

the speedo is not such a worry as its probably under reading anyway so 3 or 4 mph here or there might not be such a problem, i'll just be a little bit more careful. ;)

have to ask before i go and order some tyres, really do not want to get the wrong size!

cheers

i am noticing that the 205s are cheaper mind, £60 a corner for 215/40 Falkens and £53 a corner for 205/40 Falkens....

hmmm, methinks price mite affect my decision!

im running 205's mate, and my speedo isnt out really, well 2 mph all the way around anyway :)

well after having the wheels delivered today i know that they should go straight on but as usual nothin is that simple.

basically a few questions:

tyre place can supply 4 205/40 r17 but only on monday, that is a pain (i really want em on now!!) but i can work round it.

thing is, the wheel bolts from the current alloys (hlx 15") are too long to secure the new alloys... where should i get new ones from?

i know i shouldnt need spacers but the guy at the tyre place has got me paranoid! some one please reassure me (before i order new tyres) that i definitely WONT need a spacer to get these wheels on...they're 7" wide rather than 6".
i honestly cant see it being a problem but they've got me wondering!

any help cheers!

you absolutely do NOT need a spacer of 7" wide alloys lol. Those with 18's have had 7.5" wide rims and some of them didn't need spacers.
