Had a new set of tyres fitted to the car on Saturday, and when i got home noticed what I though was something under the mat in the passenger side footwell. Had a closer look and found out that when they had jacked the car up, they did it in the wrong place and it has pushed the whole floor pan up a couple of inches and made a bit of a mess of the box on the chassis.
I went back and showed them, they eventually, rather reluctantly agreed to give me confirmation in writing that the car was damaged as a result of it being jacked up.

I now have to go to a Fiat dealer to get them to inspect it and quote for the repairs, and will then pass that on to the tyre place and go from there.

It seems that no matter what you have done there is always something someone does wrong. Its never simple eh?

Anyone got any advice on action etc, I got it in writing from the manager so think that should be enough. Keeping a record of extra milage to claim too.

The place I went to was Jet Tyres in Canvey, usually pretty good and cheap, but not the first mistake they have made. 6 months ago I took an xr2 to them to have it balanced, and they forgot to do the wheel up properly, it was only finger tight.

Cowboy tyre fitters

Sounds like u got them bang to rights.... I'd give this lot a wide berth in future.

sale of goods & services act 1979, amended 1984, you have them by the short & curlies, so, grab, twist, and pull, for as much as you can get!

they HAVE to pay to put your car right, and foot the full cost if it means ur car is written off!

Tony.

This certainly isn't the first time that's happened. I've had two cars damaged by the monkeys who work in tyre shops.

I always stand around the car and keep an eye on the now. Alternatively, buy your tyres from a main dealer! That may sound stupid, but they're often cheaper (by a considerable margin). I know you can't trust Fiat dealers that much, but they should at least know where to jack the car up.

I second what Dug has said my local Fiat parts guy is great and he also gets tyres cheaper. Last time he fitted them for free, hows that for Fiat dealership.
Don't let them do owt else tho'.

Damage

Had it inspected, done almost £1000 damage as its not just dented the floor pan, but twisted part of the chassis. Fiat dealer said they see this quite a lot, but never seen it as bad as on my one. Great!
Got to go through the process of getting it all fixed now, the tyre company are getting arsey as its so much. They keep getting different members of managment to call me to find out if I will go somewhere other than a dealer to get it fixed cheaper!
I'm not going to budge, but I can see it may take a while to get done.
