F! Now even I would accept that would make the Stilo a hot hatch! ;)

I always assumed that the 2.4 20v was a modified 2.0 20v - the same engine used NA in the bravo/a and turbocharged in the coupé?

If they have done 2.4 conversions with the coupé it is probably a fairly easy thing to do (even if you use a few bits from a coupé)?

there are a few folks on the Coop forum with the 2.4 engine upgrade

Johns has a 2.4 Coop that runs about 460BHP @1 bar boost

The 2.4s that have been done so far though have been done by boring out the engine, rather than transplanting the 2.4 from the Stilo. I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that there are differences between the 2.4 and 2.0, besides capacity.

Also, Johns only quotes 460bhm cos that's the highest verified reading he's had - the last time he went to a rolling road it started stlipping on the rollers at 500bhp!

Oh hello mr Mr Mallet, we are a regular now aren't we ;) :D
Yes I know the Guys running the 2.4 engine are using bored out coop unit, but that is I gather basically all the Stilo Abarth engine is. The BHP I quoted was at 1 bar boost, I have heard him quote around the 540BHP mark for more boost. Nice

Also, most people call me H, rather than Mr Mr Mallett! :D
I'm still sure I read somewhere that Stilo and coop were quite different. It might have been a longer stroke in the Stilo engine.

540bhp through the front wheels is only 270bhp per wheel - the same as a very highly tuned Skyline, or a bit more than the Bugatti Veyron.

Bl**dy hell! It's all the same dodgy characters as on the coupe forum :D Nice to see you all get about a bit ;)

I've posted up on the thread on the Stilo section how it can be done for a Stilo, and Barbz@Torque Italia actually has a set of pistons on the shelf to change the compression ratio for the Stilo Abarth block
We looked into the feasibility of using a Stilo block when we did the conversion originally.

The difference in the blocks is the coupe block is 82mm bore, the Stilo is 83mm, and the stroke on the 20VT is 75.65mm and Stilo is 90.4mm. The Stilo block is taller by about 8mm. That's how Fiat got the extra capacity. So you can imagine it's quite a lot of effort to get an extra 14+mm of stroke to fit into the shorter 20VT block!
One other possibility for the Stilo is low pressure turbocharging or supercharging but I think the pistons could not take it as they are quite a weak design. My guess is they could take about 0.4 bar boost and 240BHP but even then you might start to burn a lot of oil through blow-by.

BTW thank you for promoting my motor - much appreciated! :)
John
