Hi everyone, could someone please give some advice on these following jobs .
The car is a 2014 500L1.6 diesel manual.
The last few months, the car has been not as responsive as it used to be , almost like turbo lag.
Then Thursday it was making whistling noises one morning, then it only just made it back from the local shop.
The AA man looked at it said it was turbo problem and it needs taking to the garage.
I did ask him will it be ok , he said yes it would.
But unfortunately it wasn't, and the turbo has failed entirely in a quarter of a mile so i limped it back home ,it shows no fault codes with the code reader , but on the AA diagnostic scanner,it said the boost was low , and the turbo was not spooling up ,or there was a leak somewhere, but when the smoke came out the exhaust,it obviously is the turbo.
I am thinking of doing the turbo myself.
It also needs a brake vac pump which has been leaking oil ,and the alternator overrun pulley needs to be replaced.
I have got a special tool ,the splined socket that holds the pulley still whilst you undo or do it up.
If anyone has done any of the jobs above,i would be grateful for any advice.
I will need a OBD scanner to relearn the new turbocharger, does anyone know which one would be adequate for the job.
Also it says you may have to remove the exhaust or the axle to get to the Alternator out, if this true , seems a bit extreme.
That was only when I googled it , sometimes that can be bad as the Haynes book of lies😁.
I will be taking the turbo out to replace, so the exhaust is something i will have to disconnect for the turbo.
I assume the vac pump is on the right as you look in from the bonnet. Is it the very first thing on top of the right hand side of the engine?
I will have a better Idea when I get the parts .
