Technical Turbo swap

Technical Turbo swap

I *think* it's the same turbo on them all regardless of spec anyway - it's just the software that is different I think.

Can anyone help with more info? I'm new to turbos, are ther electrical connections that might be different? Is it an easy bolt off bolt on job?

It would be worth paying a visit to the Turbo Technics website. Even if you aren't considering buying something from them, they have a wealth of information on offer.

I've had a look in their online catalogue and it says the following for the Mulltipla:

Multipla JTD 105hp 1999-00 Engine type-182B4.000 Turbo type-GT1544H OEM part no. 46480117

Multipla JTD 110hp 2000-02 Engine type-186A6.000 Turbo type-GT1544S OEM part no. 46756155

Multipla JTD 115hp 2002- Engine type-186A8.000 Turbo type-GT1749V VNT OEM part no. 55191596

That would tend to suggest that you won't be able to use your older turbo on a 2003 JTD. The VNT suffix tells you that the 115hp engine uses a variable geometry turbocharger; it doesn't look like the older ones are. It may work, but won't perform as well as the original unit.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure what bhp I've got, Maybe theres an early 115bhp model that uses the same turbo as a later 115bhp model. I'll need to check exactly what turbo goes with what model. Again thanks, much appreciated tip

There's only one turbo for each model type of a particular age. It's possible (but unlikely) that your car has had its turbo replaced with a different type at some point in the past. The three different power output JTD engines were offered in succession on the Multipla - for example, the 110 wasn't in production at the same time as the 115. The 115 unit came out in 2002.

If you get the chassis number for your car (easiest way to do this is have a look at your V5 registration document), then go on EPER (the link is at the top of the page on this forum) and click through the first few pages to get to Fiat car parts you will get to one where there's a little box on the left hand side where you can type it in. This will tell you the engine type fitted to your car.
