thermostat?

its not needed, the oil still heats up very quickly and maintains a constant 100degrees, so perfect, as you want your oil to be between 90-110degrees.

I'd rather it took a little longer to heat up than run about with 145+degrees on the oil as its starts to break down at that heat and then the turbo bearings are going to have a short life.

That means the oil cooler is closed with a cold engine and goes open if it's warmed up.

So the oil is quicker on temperature.

i know ;) i was meaning where is it, if not running with a sandwhich plate with a thermostat in it - then theres no stat..

With a stat on though you'd have best of both, heat up quickly and run at 100degrees. It might be ok temperature wise at the moment, but come winter.. i remember heading to the CC AGM last year at cruising speed Pete's oil temp was dropping more toward 50c because the engine wasn't doing much and the air was cold.

I build in the sensor in the oilpump instead of the oilcan/carter and the gauge give 115 degrees Celcius at normal highway speed and just over 125 at FT. Is this normal?

In the city it's about 100 degrees.

I can't give you a definite answer, but i use my integrale as a guide and it runs at about 85 normal driving, and about 100-110 when using lots of boost, maybe a bit higher on a track day, my Cinq runs about the same if a little higher.

i think anything above about 130ish is getting a bit too hot.

Latest reply to a thread in history, but im going to a exhaust place today about a turbo back downpipe with decat section and see if they can bring it forward slightly too so i'll have space for sandwich plate... shall see :D

p.s.

not really as was looking at larger bore downpipe with decat section anyway :)

Place today quoted me £250 with a slot in/out decat/cat section, yesterday place quoted £120 without the slotted cat/decat so maybe cheaper to get them to do it plus the section :)
