My turbo needs a new headlight for its mot, but I've been told that turbos have different lights to standard unos. Sounds bizarre to me as the lamp looks the same as a std mk2. Can anyone throw any light(!) on this???

There might be two types of headlamps - Halogen and Non Halogen. Externally they look identical, they just have different bulbs.

I don't know about the mk2 Unos, but base model mk1's had non-halogen bulbs, and all other models ('S', 'SX' and Turbo) had halogen bulbs.

Wouldn't have thought there would be any problem fitting either into a turbo?

I dont think ive ever seen a car newer than about 1985 that didnt have halogen bulbs, so i guess all mk2 unos should be halogen. Possibly the guy who told me this information was confused about the turbos clear indicators, as many lesser models have orange ones? Think i'll go down the scrappy tomorow and have a look around...

Hei.

There are two different producers of the headlamp. I can't remember any of them, but they differ on the inside and how the light beam is reflected. I had to change my headlamps due to "corrotion" of the reflectors - the "mirror" chrome paint dissolved and fell off. They were completely matte, and needed replacing. But ofcourse it was impossible to find, and was not produced any more either. So I got a pair of used lamps from the scrapyard. They were another brand, and was different inside, but mounting holes and wire connection was the same.

Morten.

Thanks for your help guys, I'll see if i can get a pair of lamps from the scrappy tomorow - shouldnt be more than £20- £30 i expect

If you havent got halogen bulbs then standard halogen H4 (472) bulbs wont fit. You need to find halogen bulbs that are specifically designed to fit. Non-halogen bulbs (ie. the bulbs u have at the moment) have the part number 410, and i think the halogen version of these is something like 480.

Or you could change the actual headlamp units over for halogen ones. Im guessing you're not in the UK but i just picked up 2 second hand headlamps for £20 from a breakers.
