tuning 1.6 16v engine

tuning 1.6 16v engine

i was gona say itd be insurance friendly with it being a 1.4,BUT its not original and would be costly.so you may aswell go up from that for sake of it.Have you considered doing a 2l 16vt conversion as theyre straight 200.

Buy my Marea ;) a damn sight cheaper and faster than the 1.6 would ever be ;)

aha don't ask me why but i prefer the idea of having a smaller engine and tuning it than a bigger standard engine...

aha your marea is well nice but i don't think i could afford the insurance, plus i think i'd have to put a leather interior in it and the bootlid looks a bit bare without a spoiler :p

how would you afford the insurance on a 1.6 converted to 1.4 turbo which is classed as modified car roughly group 14?
if anything the marea would be cheaper as its a family saloon.im only paying 400 for a 1.8 16v 5 door focus.

aha true but it'll be a one off... and im just lucky i have no real overheads, so i intend to make the most of it while i can :D

Theres got to be some way of pushing the 16v a little bit more.

From what i can tell the 1.6 is a pretty decent engine, shame its not on a moddable dizzy (MOARRR REVS)

Can spark plug gap distance effect performance?

Cooling air as best you can often can help so trying to keep engine heat away from the induction system is an ok place to start.

Direct cold air feed with no joints in the pipes should have a small gain.

Lightweight wheels i recon would help a tad.

Always stripping cars down works, but who would want to ruin our lovely fiats :)!

Less restrictive mani/exhaust system,

Performance plugs, does the 1.6 have a knock sensor? maybe it could make use of higher octane fuel!

(Sorry to ressurect this thread, i'm just eager to find a way to push power a bit.)

I have a 1.6 sx marea you see :D.

i did everything you just mentioned bar stripping and lighter alloys, ran it on 99 vpower, carbon fibre enclosed induction kit with forced cold air feed and exhaust... she went very well.

but not as well as my new mk2 gti 8v... it pulls like stink! aha

Ahhh, so the engine responded to the 99 octane vpower without any issues then? thats nice to know :D, i know good tyres factor into performance, and i can imagine that 8V going very well haha, yeah i wan't a decent amount of forward power when i get my marea sorted, and i've given it a quick blast, it goes pretty nicely!

IVE GOT AN IDEA, buy my low milage 155 hgt engine only done 51k, and all my breaks , ecu and lock set,

Hah, if i had the money i would :p,

What about a water vapour kit, they say rainy day air is denser so i think there are kits that try to simulate the effect with pretty decent effect too!

On a small na engine, octane won't make any difference, I ran mine on vpower, but its mind over matter. U can polish ur air intake and all that but a waste of time really. Best way to tune a 1.6 is to get it on carbs or do the full works like I did but I only got like 20bhp from it all, allthough my car was heavy with it being fully modified in and out, its still not worth it imo

shaunco - that was gonna be my suggestion, strip out the car apart from the drivers seat and then it will fly!!!!

I did this to my old 1.3 skoda and it made a noticeable difference!!

call avanti mororsport on 01458 446517

we had a full set of rally cams made , not c&b fast road cams, they even had 155 hgt ecu remapped for us, which 99% of companies say cant be done,

they will tell you exactly what can be done and tell you the power gains
