This morning I got in my Ducato and pulled the windshield lever to clean the windshield and the wipers just twitched and apparently died. The fluid pump works when activated but the wipers are dead.
As I don't hear any *click* when activating them I suspected a relay. Got to the relays and googling around hasn't produced a definitive answer which one is in control of wipers, if any. I shuffled them around but that made no difference.
The wiper motor is in a bit of a rough shape. Much to my surprise there is a total of 8 wires going in spread across two connectors. I unplugged them and measured the voltage with the wipers on or off. The 3-wire one produces no voltage regardless of the state, and the 5 wire one gets a voltage on one of the blue wires, but not knowing what the purpose of each one is it did not get me far. Anyone knows the pinout of the wiper motor? Thanks!

Hmm, looking at some photos of new motors online, it seems that the three wires going in the right connector actually go back in the motor. Guess feeding 12 V to two of the three wires would confirm if the motor itself is dead or not (?)

Hi Tom,
Why, oh why is the humble relay so often the first suspect? They can and do fail, but only rarely. There are no relays in the diagram.

I think that I can improve on the pinout. See attached diagram, which is sourced from the German language manual available in the downloads section.

The colour code translation table, is my addition. Apparrently the 3 pole connector only links to the motor, so obviously no voltage from that source.

From the diagram , Pin 1 = NC, Pin 2 = Park, Pin 3 = Flick, Pin 4 = Speed 1, Pin 6 = Speed 2, Pin 7 = Earth.

If the motor appears to be in poor condition, bearings, commutator, and brushes should be checked. Probably much easier said, than done.

I hope that the diagram matches your vehicle wiring.

Haha, wishful thinking I'd say! 😅

Thanks, this clears things up quite a bit. I think motor replacement will be in order which looks like a straightforward procedure. Found some €25 ones on ebay. hope they won't be of 'buy cheap, buy twice' type. Will report back.
