Technical Tow Bar

Hi Everyone!
I wish to fit a towbar to my Fiat Puno Grande 1.2 16v.
The manufacturers warrenty expire on 24th June 2010, so im going to install it after then to not void anything...
Am I right in saying the wiring for the tow bar can be connected/crimped onto/into the back lights in the car if the car is out of manufactures warranty ?, but If car is still under warranty the tow bar needs fitting by a approved dealer and the wiring needs to be wired into a 7 way bypass relay or car specific wiring kit ?

Is this really nessacery and what would happen if i just crimped onto wire off back light ?

new car electrics can be a nightmare............avoid the scotchgrips (blue connectors) on new cars, instead buy the correct looms ( off that well known site) which can normally be wired in satisfactorally by a competant diy'er
