Top speed of a 1.8 HLX?

Can everyone who owns a Mk1 1.8 HLX post what they have had top end please, only my friend has one and so do I. We both only have a k&n induction kit fitted and ecotek valves. He has had 122mph and I top out at 125mph - I was pretty impressed by this considering I was on flat ground and not downhill at all! If you have had any higher it must be ur mods doing it, interested to find out what mods have given you the best top end.

I have had mine showing 135mph on a good flat stretch of motorway, but i'd put that more down to inaccuracy of the speedo than anything. The 1.8 does seem to reach 125ish fairly easily and then creep slowly towards the 130's on the speedo but as i said, how accurate those figures are is another thing!

my mates 1.6 16v does 125 on flat, got 132 down the M606! damn those speed cameras!

i've had just under 130 in my 1.6 16v.

this is a lesser speed. NEVER again.

No two speedos are alike and at top end speeds they wil not be showing the correct speed. Speeds shown at the speedo will generally be anywhere up to 10% out so if doing 120mph you could be doing as little as 108 or as much as 132!

thats funny because the legal requirement for a speedometer through its ratios at top end peak of every gear is a maximum of 5%

Like anythng else it will get worse over time and dependant on modifications.

I max out at about 120mph in my 1.8 Marea Weekend, which sounds about correct.

I can see your fuel gauge dropping...lol

How did you manage to get a clear pic at that speed?

I tried at 140mph+ and got a complete blur...(couldnt make out a thing)

130mph+ i got alot of blur (just about tell you were in a car)

120mph+ just about make out the speedo...

The top one i tried at night, which didnt help...

I used my old Nokia 3650. I had a pic at almost 130mph but lost that when My computer was infested with viruses. lol

i think it looks abit wierd

i have original hlx kit....no mods (well new fiat round badges)

at 4000rpm i go at about 85mph, at 80mph its about 3700rpm so 130mph at 5000rpm???? whats going on

i know yours is a 1.6 but i still don't get the numbers

these are in 5th gear as well, some of you recommend in other posts that you go in 4th to get max speed!

Wimmy, you need to buy a HGT, mine went past that without any photoshopping
