Tuning top end speed

Tuning top end speed

I guess you’ve added a bit of weight to the old girl with a `few’ mods(?)

“92” may have been achieved with a few anti-drag tricks - all panel gaps faired over with tape, no wing mirrors etc.

If i were to have tried to speed I believe the speedo would read around 99mph which is roughly about 94mph real speed, this is 4mph less (I think!) than the book figure for the 60sx.... With the larger exhaust you might actually lose a bit of top end I believe, what induction kit have you got on too??

Also, fitted the indicators - so much better thanks a lot mate :D

I bought a 1.1 fiesta years ago for £80 it's top speed was what I paid for it, assuming it worked (which it didn't most of the time) if you over rev'd it it would misfire badly till you turned it off an on again.
My girlfriend at the time (and future ex wife) had a 899cc cinquecento which I managed an indicated 102mph in which was pretty impressive it did sound like it was going to explode though.

Later i bought her a 1999 mk1 60 (team?) was a nice little car 1.2 and I seem to remember it being able to do 98ish mph? I'm sure it could have gone faster but was being weighed down by its 'ample' owner ;)

Glad to hear U have them lights fitted :D I have the KnN cone filter sat on top of tb with cold ir feed with the standard filter it only did 85mph as well

Ive always thought sticking a cone filter on top was bad due to it can suck hot air from the engine in aswell.

Your cold air feeds might be helping it slightly but it cant guarantee pure cold air.

your 16" alloys are whats affecting your speed readings. the bigger you go from standard wheel size the slower the speed is indicated. so be careful the speed cameras don,t have you

your speedo cold be saying 70 but your actually doing 75.

It maybe the speedo over-reads, or under-reads (illegal), or is true.

Do a motorway marker trial.

Top speed when i bought the car - 80mph at the speedo, couldn't get done for speeding:p
Now... I'm not allowed to say:nono:
Faster than the standard speed ;)
(not by too much though)

As I said I reckon your exhaust may be killing your top end power... Also yeah the tryes will give false readings... Also age of the car, you will lose a small amount of power over the years. I doubt there's much you can do performance wise! I was hoping the same but theres not a lot out there, supposedly the punto 75 manifold and camshaft fits the 60 but not sure about the 55. Other than that the ussual "save weight" get rid of spare/ any unneccessary carpets trimmings etc. but then you kinda lose the functionality of the car! Just drive it like you stole it round town, you don't need a fast car to have a bit of fun :D

I have a full mdf boot bulid that weighs 20kg  so i have no parcel shell of spare wheel lol I am going to investergate into puting a 75 head ect ect onto my engine if its possable it just needs that bit more power and i will be happy

I've been looking into a low pressure turbo for some time now. It should be possible.
For the biggest gain in power you will need to swap the SPI throttle to MPI.
Will also mean swapping the ecu over though. I've not tried this though due to insurance issues.

1.2 sporting jap import, japspeed catback exhaust, 1.6 bravo throttle body and 14inch abarth wheels managed 127 on the clock ? not sure if its been chipped or not as all history is japanese

Yer I am rolling on 16" alloys and the car did have 13" steelys.

As said, the bigger wheels will be affecting the speedo readings. Probably affecting acceleration, too -- effectively you've raised the final gearing, so that for each revolution of the wheel (or the engine) the car goes further. Pretty extreme with an 1108 engine lugging a lardarse Punto about!
