My problem is:-
i already have a 2 channel amp (bridged) powering my sub at the moment.

I want to get some component speakers in the front of my car.

I don’t want to run them just off my HU because I know that won’t get me the best sound.
I want to get an amp to power my sub and front speakers.

So do I get another amp to power just the front speakers or do I get rid of my current amp and get a larger amp to power everything.

My front component speakers will be 90w rms and my sub is 250w rms.

Any suggestions for what I should do and what amp I could get would be great. (Weather its what 2 channel amp or a new larger amp altogether)

thanks.

Its entirely up to you, I presume you know the extra work and cost it will involve to get another amp as opposed to getting a single 4 channel amp? You can always sell your 2 channel amp to someone if you get a 4 channel amp as well.

What sub are you running and what comps? Whats your budget for everything including materials (i.e wiring, dissy blocks, wood, carpet etc...) ?

personally I like having 2 amps, I had the choice of buying a 4 channel amp or getting another 2 channel amp and went with the 2 amp choice. But thats my preference.

ive got a JBL 1000 sub and i wnat to run Infinity REFERENCE 6500cs 17cm comps.

money realy isnt that bigger deal. i dont mind paying what ever i have to to get the best quality. id guess id spend up to £120 for a small 2 channel amp.
ive already got a false floor set up in my boot. so it would be just new wiring for the amp and speakers id have to pay out for.

i prefer the idea of having to amps.
but the wiring for the power and remote switch on for the amp will that be a problem will i have to put in an extra power lead and remote switch lead or can i use the ones that ive got going througth my car already.

www.caraudiodirect.com will be your best bet for the amp or have a look at www.caraudiosecurity.com and have a look at a JBL GTO 2000, this runs at 2x75 w RMS at 4 ohm and can be bought for £65 in some places.

The new wiring will not be that much of a problem. Just make sure that the exsisting cable can handle the extra ampage. Have a look at www.eatel.com (I think, its very helpful on there) to see what gauge wire you will need once you have chosen the new amp.

All you need then is to get a couple of distrubution blocks from somewhere like Maplins and start installing. The main power cable will still run to the boot, you then run this into a distrubution block and then from the dissy block into the amps, the same applies for the ground cable. The remote cable runs a very small ampage so you can just use a wiring block that is used by electricians (I dont know what they are called but have 2 gaps for wire and are held in place by a screw, I just soldered the 2 remote wires together to connect it to the main one that runs from the HU)

thanks for that matt. thats cleared alot of things up for me.:D
ive already got that amp running my sub. its bridged.

i was hoping to find a small sized amp than the JBL so i could make a fake wall for it in the wheel arch and have it sitting vertically in the boot.

If you already have a GTO2000 then why not build them into a rack, it looks wicked when there the same amps.

a rack??

what do you mean ive never seen or heard of snak like that.

when getting the amp how will it matter if the amp doesnt match the speakers for RMS value.

ive seen some amps but their RMS is lower than the speakers.???

In a rack, its a way of displaying your amps. Simple enough to build, I was looking for some pics on the net but couldnt find any.

You dont need to match the watts like for like.

For your comps (90w RMS), I would use an amp ideally with something around that figure, say, 15w either way or so. It doesnt matter really, as long as your not going insanely over the rating.

ok. sounds cool but hard work as well.
if you do find any pictures that would be great.

thanks for the advice on the rms values.

im going to look around for an amp 2nite on the net.

R.M.S. is .707 of the peak value
or 1.414 of the Peak to Peak value.
The R.M.S. value is the mean DC value.

For PMPO not a good method of measuring the power output
divide by 4. it just makes it seem more powerful than it is.

Best amplifiction bias is class A.

Followed by A/B.

Class A is fully linear but it's efficency is about 30%

Class A/B. is almost as linear with some ripple but more efficient.

So that is why when you buy a Class A amp it costs you more.
