Thought I might try and do this myself. Until today when I asked my garage what they would charge. At £50 per window I'll DEFINITELY attempt it myself.

I've already done paper templates to ensure as little faff as poss actually handling & cutting the film. Garage suggested sealing edges with nail varnish, around edges on electric front windows, where likely to meat seals.

Any guidance, paricularly perhaps about removal of the front windows & panelling, greatly appreciated.

Apart from the fact tinting the front side windows is illegal its also fricking hard. Thats why they charge so much.

The rear side windows are just curved enough to require a shrink tint.

You really have two options m8...

1. Pay to have it done, i think you maybe able to get it cheaper than quoted...i paid about £180 for 5 windows, when it was legal on the fronts...

2. Don't tint your windows...

You may be able to do the rear quarters if you are very good, but as for the rear window...forget it...its a right bitch, most companies have to do it in two parts because of the curvature of the window...

Fair enough then...lol

I never tried mine, but i thought they would be easier as they are flatter...

i tried doing mine about a month ago (despite people like wimmy tellin me not to cos its too hard) and yep - it was hard - i got it lookin good but then i went for absolute perfection and messed it up - it's worth paying the money i think - that's next for me! :)

Yer forget doing it yourself.... its hard and it peels off and cracks afte a year or so.

Get them tinted though.. looks good. This thing about it been ilegal is strange.......... I was chatting to my mate who is a traffic cop about it. He says you can still have the 35% tint on but if you get a cop on a bad day they now have the force to ask yopu to remove it within 1 month. If you have more tints than that they can tell you to remove it straight away. Mine are tinted to about 39% and i was stopped only about 1 month ago and they didnt say a word about them........ SO.. get them done :)

Nocturnal Types!

Cheers for your comments guys (wots bettin Mr Al's tucked up snuggly in bed right now, dreaming of bare backed Bravo's on smooth sunbaked tarmac):) Only yoking, havn't even met the guy.

Not unaware of the issue of the legal restraints on tinted windees, I had been comparing a couple of spare srips of dark vs. light foil, against my windows. It's been on the radio that police have been using metering around my parts lately; 65% being the permitted min.

Of course our windows are slightly tinted already, so I had been wondering (since 'dark' leaglly is meant to be borderline) is 'light' on top of existing, more or less than 'dark' alone. Its less. But law is only bothered bout drivers anyway, so could still get all others done dark.

OFF TOPIC* I don't know how 'normal' people cope having to sleep so much! How would you manage to get anything done if you needed to sleep 9hrs or more each night, god forbid. AND I hardly watch any TV at all. Sleeps for the grave.

Re: Nocturnal Types!

Actually 70% is the minimum, but thats light transmission NOT tint.

So the maximum tint you can have is 30% but your windows are already a few % tinted. Light smoke is a 70% tint.

Legally they can give you points and up to £1000 fine for having too dark tints.

re

my local place is 180 for full set of tints, or used to be when i had it done,

and that is gauranteed for the slightest bubble, and the film is obviously lot better quality than what you can buy in halfords, halfords stuff always seems really purple when i've seen it, professional doesnt seem much different, just a bit darker when looking out through it!

Re: re
