Technical Tipo Jerking

hello everyone
i have a problem with my 1.6 I.e.
when idle the RPM drops 200rpm`s and goes back to 1000
the car does it every 5-10 seconds
also when i release or press the accelerator it jerks for a second in the first 3 gears - nothing on 4th and 5th
recently it seemed to lack power in lower rpm`s ( under 2000 )
the engine shakes like it has a misfire but there`s nothing wrong with the leads or plugs

beside that the car accelerate very good as soon as it reaches 3000 rpm`s

i tested everything - new manifold gasket, sprayed brake cleaner at throttle body`s sandwich plate and the manifold gaskets, no vacum hoses are cracked or broken as far as i can see, plug leads and spark plugs, cleaned my sport air filter, fuel circuit and pumb works fine

another thing, i always suffered from excessive fuel consumbtion ( 22.5 mpg in urban cycle , 29.5 mpg in long distances at approx 75 mph )

can anyone help me with that

actually the lambda sensor is very expensive here, so i`ll not replace it unless i`m absolutely sure that it will solve my problem

is there a way to check the sensor , we don`t have diagnostic machines or emission tests so i need something to do manually

EDIT : I`ve just Checked something, i disconnected the sensor and there`s no difference in idle or revs, does this mean that the sensor is faulty or is this just the way it works,

I think when the Lambda is disconnected there is suppose to be a change of some sorts in the engine ....

No, no change at all, even when cruising

another thing, in the last month, for 3 or 4 times the car just shut down on its own
the rpm drops to 400-600 and then it just go off with ignition lights on, i start the car and mysteriously it works perfect

its really started to get very annoying to me, stalling and jerking is just unbearable

so any idea anyone ?

Sounds like the Lambda - do you have a garage that can check your emmissions as that will tell you for a lot less than buying a new sensor from the outset. If it is then there are ones normally to be found on e/bay . Good luck!

unfortunately we don`t have emission tests here in egypt :bang:

another thing, i have a working Lambda Sensor from a tempra but it has 4 wires but mine have only 3 ,i know it`s a stupid question but can i override the 4th wire ?

how's that a bad thing?? apart from for the environment and the people which have to breath the air etc.. etc.. but it's a good thing for a car owner!

for me it`s a very good thing, i removed my CAT without any trouble from the law
but in a case like this, you need that kind of tests to figure out what`s wrong with the car
another thing, the stupid FIAT dealership here told me they don`t have anyway of checking my car for faults, the don`t have the appropriate tools or machine software, but they suggested " worn engine , faulty injector, clogged exhaust ......... ) this goes on for quite some time , they almost said everything that can be changed in the car

hello everyone, I Have some good news
i was bored and have nothing to do
i changed the manifold gasket + throttle body sandwich plate gaskets
the car is much better now, still some jerks and stalls but a lot less than before

the bad news is, i didn`t find my lambda sensor anywhere even at fiat`s dealership, the 3-wires sensor is not avaliable at all, but the 4-wires sensor is avaliable at many shops for around 60 euros
