I've got a Tipo 1.4 ie S which seems to be a bit thirsty on fuel - I get typically 25 around town and 40 on a run. I recently had it MOTd and it only just passed the CO2 test with a reading of 0.29%. It seems that there is a problem somewhere that is leading to an incorrect mixture being used. What checks can I do to try and isolate this? I can't really afford to get it tested at a garage as they are talking £60-70 just to plug it in to the computer with parts on top of that. It doesn't help that there is no Haynes manual for this version of the Tipo so I'm working fairly blind. I changed the Lambda sensor a while back as it wasn't idling smoothly and the voltage output from it was fluctuating wildly, but the consumption is no better. The car itself runs very well, but I'm concerned about the high running costs as well as any potential damage that might be occuring. Any ideas for checks I can do with a multimeter? Can you connect a PC to the on-board injection computer and diagnose things that way? ISTR reading it is just a standard RS232 output on these things. TIA!
