engine management light

my oil in my 100 hlx needed topping up so i put some more in, i used 5w40 duckhams fully synthetic, then as i drove away the engine light came on... i realise this may have been a big mistake now... bit worried i may have done some damage, any ideas on what to do and what oil i should have used would be greatly apreciated

10w40 semi i used in mine

A Fiat Marea in a Bravo Shell..its good to be different
