my daughter has a 1993 1.4 i e tipo and it suddenly stopped, after towing it home and having a good look i,ve discovered there,s no fuel delivery or spark is there any body out there who knows of a reason for this. any help would be greatfully recieved.

Check the crank sensor, same issue I had on an Uno turbo (well actually it was the flywheel sensor in this case) no spark or fuel because the ECU didn't know the engine was turning over.

Yep. correct. Unless the ECU receives a signal, the fuel relay will not power the pump and no spark will be produced. Easy to change the crank sensor on that model. The crank sensor sits in a volatile area where it will pick up muck and wear. So they do fail once in awhile.

Andy.

thank you for your replies i appreciate your help. can this situation occur whilst the car is being driven or just on starting and am i right in thinking that it,s located under the cam belt cover.

Can probably fail at anytime. Haynes indicates that "the sensor is located in a bracket bolted to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing, on the manifold side of the engine." Don't attempt to remove the sensor bracket! Find the wire which goes into the loom and follow it back is a good way of finding it.
