hi all, my timing belt snapped on me have changed belt according to haynes manual re-timed as instructed, now car turns but will not fire although does try, whats the possibilty of damage to the valves/guides (can turn engine by hand if that helps) answers greatly appreciated :bang:

got compression, no nasty noises just wont fire but tries, just cant figure where going wrong

Is it possiple that you accidentaly disconnected the ECU? If so the fuel pump sends no petrol and the engine can' t ignite no matter how much you try.

04.30 just got in from work and read posts thanks, one of lads at work bringing me a compression tester tomorrow so that will give me an idea if any thing damaged or not, however later last night my mate said he got it running but very un-even and got popping from exhaust so maybe on right track now will let you all know how we get on, thanks again for your help.

If its the old 1372 engine I'm sure these are interference engines so if the belts gone you'll have very probably bent a few valves. Something worth checking would be the crank/TDC sensor. May also have a flywheel sensor for engine speed. This was the case for my ex-UT. Flywheel sensor failed and engine wouldn't started. Replaced and good as gold. The sensor told the ECU the engine was turning without it no spark or fuel injection.

sorry i am new at this and this may be important, when i took off timing cover i found that the belt had not snapped but come of the pullies, but have re-newed the belt any way while in there
:yum:

hi all its ,the pain ,again cannot find compression specs for test it gives me compression ratio but not what comp should be on meter ( using haynes manual) need psi/bar not in manual:bang:

Hang on. your belt snapped and you have not removed the head to check for valve/piston damage?
you WILL most certainly have valve damage and if you are unlucky, piston damage. Remove the head for inspection and make sure you set the timing right before fitting cam belt as it can be out 180 degrees.
For costs, source another head. proberly cheaper then replacing valves. Use new gasket.

Andy.
