Technical tipo 1.4 l reg - probably wrecked.

Just got this car, have had fiats for years and the engines have always been stonking! This one had NO OIL in it, found this out after giving it a good hard burn on the way home, just to check for problems you see. Thing is I'm a bit concerned that it'll be finished after that. It sounds okay but that doesn't necessarily mean it's fine. Just how hardy are these engines?
Please don't lecture me, I'm usually pretty sensible with my cars and don't know what got in to me.

all you can do is give it fresh oil & filter and hope.maybe run some flushing oil through 1st to clear any swarf

Hehe same happened to my mum's L reg 1.4ie Tipo.

We whipped the sump off, cleaned the pickup off the crank with wet+dry paper and re-shelled it from below. Put it all back together and it ran fine until we sold it.

My mum's had actually siezed up (had to be towed home) so yours might survive with a flush of oil

I'm off to buy some flushing oil. Feeling fairly reassured.
Any thoughts on the commonest area of the engine to leak oil? I've no idea how fast it's dumping the oil and the prat I bought it from lied about so much there's no point asking him.
I suspect/hope it's rocker and dipstick.

If it has a Rocker Cover then that is the most comon place, also a point right next to the distributor.

But it should never leak to empty from those two points as the are high up.

Ah, good point. This is bad.

Mine leaked from the rocker cover gasket until I replaced it. Cost me all of about £10.
