can someone please clear up tints for me!

- legal and not-legal (darkness/lightness/shade ect)
- issues with front side windows (apparently you cant tint them but have
seen it done!)
- the coloured tints (red, yellow ect ect) are they road legal if just one the back windows or are they legal all round?

cheers charlie

so the coloured ones that are advertised with "for off road and show use, may not be road legal" are more than liely road legal?

im not gettin coloured tints (yet... :pwell not the uno anyways ) but am just curious bout them. as for black tints - 70% of light is the minimum or the maximum?

cheers charlie

Erm, fronts must allow 70% of light in.

Don't worry about it though. Twist the arm of the tint shop and they'll do anything. Just claim ignorance with cops and they'll say "ok, remove them". Far too much other serious stuff going on than window tints and front fog lights.

Hi TS86,

:yeahthat: Don’t be so sure!

I remember a gas-guzzler thingy got pulled over in Manchester. The front glass failed the Police test, and they gave him till the end of the day to fix it. I think they were going to take him to court, or impound his vehicle if he didn’t (can’t remember tbh).

Anyway, the guy driver to pay for brand new glass which on (LOL) an oversized gas-guzzler thingy cost loads to rectify :nerner: .

I recently had mine done and they are illegal. They are a chrome to clack fade tint. The rears were a med tint for the black, the front were a light black. If I had just the light black (without the chrome) they would have been legal.

All depends on which part of my glass they do the test on now

obviously from whats beens aid the front has to be lighter tint than the rear, so..... how dar can the back side windows be and the rear window?

wimmy - your tints are f-'ing awesome (y)

cheers charlie

For tinting front windows they must let 75% light in tinting at 25% but on the back windows you can tint them as dark as you want. I found that out by the police the hard way, so watch out or it's a £60 fine and 3 points on the licence.

Luckily I got away with just a producer and 2 weeks to remove a couple of weeks back. the copper did the test on my windows and apparantly they let less than 30% thru! Ooops.

Anyways, rather than remove the tint - i decided new windows would be the best option (£25 from scrappers). Did the producer and couldnt resist putting the others back in. Naughty I know.

Rite this is the legal requiremnt fot tinted windows from what i was told by the tinted place i went to

The back windows are in limo black, the darkest possible!!! this is know as CH 05 or CH 35 cant remember which way round.

The fronts are the LEGAL MAXIMUM!!! this is either CH35 or CH 05, again cant re,ember which way around.

The place i went to do tinited windows for Ford, Jaguar and Land Rover, so i trust what they are saying is correct.

Hope this helps (y)

It aint the tint that has to be legal. Its the tint AND window must allow a certain amount of light through. A lot of cars nowadays have a tint in the window to start with. Some marques are nr the minimun in the first place so ANY tint on those would make them illegal.

Those timts would prob be legal on clear glass. I doubt yours had clear glass on in the first place though
