Just had timing belt and water pump replaced and the garage made a big issue of the belt being off by one tooth. I know belt was replaced at 72k and has done 30k like that so is one tooth something that would be noticed and is it crucial on these engines and is the garage correct?

Pics are of belt before replacement . I done have any of it after replacement ironically so hope after all that he did it right!

No damage from being 1 tooth out .
I am surprised being a tooth out didn't set a fault code and turn eml on.

It did 30k like it so clearly as you said. no damage. I wonder if it would smoke a bit more like that and be a bit hesitant in the mornings as previous owner said it was a bit smoky and hesitant in the mornings. I did not notice anything personally but then ony drove about 20 miles in it before belt changed. He said it took him 6 hours to do which was why the bill was so high. How long should it take on these engines do you reckon no more than 4 or 5?
