Hi Guys.

I have had a squeak from the belt side of the engine for a little while and thought a belt tensioner bearing was on it's way out until the engine started overheating the other day. Must be the water pump, I thought, as there are no obvious leaks. When I had a look I could see that the cam belt is trying to come out of the plastic cover and the centre of one the pulleys too. A closer look shows that the belt is running about 4mm out from the edge of the pulley. Any ideas on why this should be please, before I start taking it to bits, and are there any links on this site that shows how to change the belts as I can't get hold of a Mac-compatible manual?

Many thanks,

Ok, so I had the covers off today and it looks like the water pump bearing has collapsed, allowing the cam belt to move out of alignment. It was probably only the cambelt covers that were holding it in place! All three covers are damaged (the upper two cut almost in half) and the belt is damaged too.

Next question is; How do I lock up the cam pulleys so that I can fit the new belt without upsetting the timing please? On other cars I have owned they had locating holes that I put pegs in to hold everything in place but can't see anything like that on this engine.

Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.
