hi,
Has anyone ever changed the timing belt on the 1.4 12v engine?, if so, were there any special tools required to do it and was it a difficult task.

Cheers,
Colm.

cam belt change

there are special tools but its posible to do without them if you are carfull .....the cover on the belt is held on with rib tool fixings they will normal be taken off with torx tools be carefull not to break the cover ,the pully on the crank is much the same ,the altinator drive belt has an auto tensioner thats very strong use a long spanner (15mm)and leave it on against the subframe you wont get it on easily once you take it of if you do take it off ,rotate the engine(clockwise) to top dead center and mark the pullys top and bottom with paint so you have reference marks slacken the tensioner on the cam belt and remove the belt putting the new one on to realign the marks on the sprockets to retension the belt use a large screwdriver put it in the hole in the casing at the right hand side of the tensioner and push against the metal bracket that holds the bearing assembly and push the tensioner into the belt till the small arrow lifts up past the hole drilled in the bracket ,tighten up the 13mm nut that holds the tensioner and rotate the engine(clockwise) two turns then retension the tensioner so the arrow ligns up with the hole in the bracket.dont try and start the engine till you are sure that everything has lined up propely

Snapped timing belt... Cost????

I just snapped my timing belt yesterday during normal driving... It was recommended that if you have snapped it rather than changing it you get the valves checked incase any are bent and you'll need to check the engine compression too!

I was told it could cost between £150 if its just the belt and anything up to £500 if the valves are damaged does this sound about right to anyone here?

Thanks

It just happend to me

My car is still in the shop but the estimate is more than £2,000 !!

The problem is that some Bravo's has a defective wheel of some kind that 'drives' the timing belt.
I'm sorry that my knowledge of technical english is not that good.

I'm still trying to get Fiat to pay their share of the cost as they knew this could happen but did nothing........

Regards, Steen

Not the timing belt.....

.....browsing through the rest of the Forum i guess that it is called a Cam belt.
Sorry about that.

Bill just in

After 2 weeks the estimate has come in at £1377 and it won't be ready for about another 2 weeks. Having real bother with my garage... although from listening to others this sounds an acceptable cost they are not very helpful at the garage and all sound like very dodgy geezers :)

Does anyone have post replacement experiences? Any problems or shoddy repair work I should worry about
