cambelt about £20 + vat and tensioner about £24 + vat.consider the water pump replacement too.i would personally change that too.

why rerplace the water pump? are they prone to go. and how much are they?
wanted a cheap car to run. did not think i would have to replace alot of things

Nothing to worry about on a 1.6 if you are going to do the work yourself. Water pumps in general can fail so as they are a cheap item it is considered worthwhile to change them when you have that part of the engine in bits.

On the 2.0 20v it is very wise to change it with the cam belt. Not because it is any more likely to fail but because it is such a pain to change if it does fail.

the water pump runs off the cam belt.when you release the cambelt and replace it.you are putting new pressure on the pump.they tend to start leaking because you have disturbed them.so replace it and have reliable motoring.:) and dont forget the tensioner.

so how much will that be all in. water pump, timeimg belt kit. and fitting

If you follow link in Helcats post to Sapmotors you will find pump about £35 and Belt can not remember  . Have a look as they list loads of parts.

Or try phoning around. If you have a grarge you normally use ask them for a quote. We could give you prices but that would only be for garages around here. Also depends which garage you go to. I've been quoted anything from 250 to 700~800 for my cambelt change so shop around for decent quotes, best from reccomended garages.

well i have bought the belt and tensioner £58 all in. just waiting for a friend of mine to give me a quote to do it.:)

well all done now and my mate only charged me £20. he said it was **** easy to do. so where do people get silly prices from for doing this job.:)
