Hi lady non car savvy driver here ,just wondering what my 500 x tickover should be and is easy to change if wrong ,currently ticks over at 1000 rpm .
Thank you.

1000 at cold is OK I would expect a bit less once warm. Its not easily adjusted as it is controlled by the cars computer. If the temperature gets to normal (mid range) reasonably quickly after starting up,its probably not something to worry about. Car gauges are not very accurate and it may just be a slight over reading. Psycologically seeing 1000 rather than a fraction less is stressful. I suspect there is nothing to worry about. If it sounds like its running around the right speed I would ignore this and just monitor it. It won't affect fuel consumption by any significant amount.

Thank you for advice .I will monitor it as you say.

Idle / tick over speed will vary depending on:

1) Engine temperature for sure, as mentioned by @The Panda Nut

2) Can't say for sure but I would think that on later models (all makes) that are reliant on good battery change vs battery drain then it is conceivable that the engine revs can be increased at idle to ensure the battery is charged correctly and there is no net loss of power. So with heaters (screens and air system on defrost) the engine idle may be increased. Smart Charging comes to mind. If this does exist and you have a poor battery then faster idling is likely to occur.
