can anyone give any advice,
i have 1998 2.0l s fiat ulysse which has a tick over problem.
first started as a intermitant fault, the car would be running super the out of the blue when had parked up and done a bit of shopping the dam thing would not maintain a tick over, and when the dam thing did the tick over was as rough as hell, driver it for a 20/30 min and everthing would return to normal. now the fault is there all the time, if you start the car it will not maintain a tick over unless you rev the car to approx 2000 rpm of a few min the slowly lower the revs then it will maintain a very rough tick over, as soon as you dive the car and push the clutch in the tick over again dissapears and the car stalls this continues for the first five min of travel and until the car is warmed up !! Please help as this is driving me crazy, apart from that the car drives super.[:(!][:(!]

Clean out the throttle body and the idle/air valve the put ignition on for 90secs the off for 90sec then on 90secs then start engine and let it idle till fan cuts in the go for a drive and check.:D

thanks for advice,
do you need to put code in when you put the ignition on or just turn the switch ?
also what is the location of the idle/air valve?
once this is done will this reset the fault fully ?
thanks mate and help and advice appriciated, also do you know were you can get technical manuals on these cars as ther does not seem to be a haynes manual for these cars.

Hi

Did you get this sorted aridle? I have this same problem and am going insane trying to sort it out! I can't really afford to have the main dealer keep it all day, charge me a fortune to test it then give it back saying it works (this happened before!)

Did that advice work? I am crap at cars and cant do it myself, but if I know that that is it I can take it to someone who can )

Cheers

Alison :)

we had this problem for 2 weeks and yes this advice does work when first reset car runs on high reves but does settleb almost straight away ps try using 5 star petrol in your car as the problem we had also was reduced by this but came back when using normal unleaded

Cool, so did this technique sort it permanantly do you think? or has it just solved it this time and you will need to do it again when it comes back?

If it is just a temporary solution, does anyone know of a permanent one?

Thanks for the tips everyone. this problem has been driving me mad :I

Hi
Read the thread, I'm having the same symptoms with my 2.0 EL 1998. From cold it won't tickover but after warming up it runs OK, feels slightly rough though. This has only been doing this for about 2/3 weeks, I will try the advice and post my results.
Regards

Gordon
