hello

does anyone on hear know where the position of the thrust bearing is and if its easily accessible without dismantling the car

cheers

short answer is no
longer answer is it is what divides your gearbox from your clutch, to get at it you need to take the gearbox out.

would this explain the whining/whirring noise i experiance in 4th gear i was told it would prob be the thrust bearing

Not unless you drive with your foot on the clutch pedal. Under normal driving conditions the thrust bearing is not in motion.

Don't hold the car in gear at junctions or lights - take it out of gear and don't 'shoe' the clutch (resting foot on pedal when not changing gear). Multis are prone to wearing the 'fingers' of the pressure plate and noisy thrust bearings by this practice!

The noise is probably within the box rather than the thrust bearing for the reason above. As said above - check gear oil and use synthetic.
