Does anyone have any thoughts on the Kenwood KDC-W7031?

Im thinking about buying one but Im not 100% sure yet, I went to halfords earlier and tried one out, sounded pretty darn good and I just wanted some more opinions. Cheers.

Kenwood make some fine headunits but for a little more cash you can get yourself one of the best alpine headunits. Which would sound so much nicer than the kenwood. Although wouldnt look as flashy.

Depends what you want a flashy looking unit or something that sounds better than it looks.

I personally prefer sound and Alpine are usually near the top of my list when it comes to looking at headunit followed by pioneer.

There are other nicer sounding units but they come with hefty price tags.

Ive never been attracted to kenwood, i think its just the name..........it reminds me of all the household appliances you can get from kenwood, like food mixers!

I'm pretty sure that there are two completely separate companies called Kenwood. The food mixer one and the car audio one.

I would personally chose a Pioneer or Alpine over a Kenwood. In my experience they are better quality. Although I would say Kenwood is better than Sony.

I love my head unit the sony m1000tf cost me £400 when it first came out :) i agree with alpine i also had a alpine head unit loved it for all options bass engine etc. Still have alpine digital amp! best amp i have ever had. I would not recommend them for subs though as pioneer take some beating on their sub!

any recomendations on the alpine side?

How much you willing to spend?

If your buying a headunit think of the max your willing to spend then price one up around that mark.

But around the £160-£200 mark could get something like the CDA-9853R

Theres a version similar to that but slightly less spec'd the 9851r which is £170ish then you have the classic style units which drop in price still. Unless you want one that can support DVD media as well. There around £300

I have just bought the Kenwood head unit you mention - the W7031. Very pleased with it - sounds and looks the dogs!

I agree that alpine are generally the best but it depends what sort of system you are trying to install - if you are just connecting up to the standard factory punto speakers like me then it probably doesnt matter greatly. I thought the majority of Alpine HU's looked dated and boring so plumped for the kenwood as it was reduced by £100. Halfords installed it within 15 minutes.

Only problem ive experienced is that the punto subwoofer no longer works. Anyone got any thoughts on how to get this working with a non-punto head unit??
