Well yesterday I went ahead and fitted my Focal Polyglass components! Wow! What a difference in sound compared to the tiny 4" components I used to have! I've always been sceptical that I'd ever notice the difference in a change of speakers, but they really do seem impressive! Someone said they wouldn't be too good at bass, but I really am impressed by the body they give the sound! I can turn them up as loud as I would ever comfortably want to listen, and still have no distortion!

The thing is though, they're 6" speakers, and I wanted to fit them without cutting away any of the door. Luckily the MDF I made the bracket from was the perfect thickness to hold them in the exact place to fit snuggly up against the door without cutting, butthe door cards don't quite fit back all the way now, cos the speakers poke out a bit too much! (Not that it notices!)

How has anyone else fitted 6" speakers? Cutting away at the door?

Also, I though I'd have a go at something I'd been thinking about for a while- wiring the door-unlocking signal to the indicators to make them flash when you lock/unlock the car.

I found the wires on the back of the rcl relay that pulse to 12v for a second when you pop it- yellow for unlocking- grey for locking-, and found the wires on the back of the hazard lights switch - one works the right, another the left- and temporarily wired them together!
Obviously not being electronically minded, I had an idea this was a bit daft!

It worked one way- as in the indicators did flash when the doors were unlocking, but the other way- operating the hazard lights- just made a fzzz noise and burnt out the fuse!

So now it's back to normal again! I'll try and think it over better and maybe give it another go some time! I'll try the back of the indicator relay, or find another wire elsewhere that goes to the indicator bulbs.

Any thoughts on how to do this, from anyone who knows anything about electronics?! I'm fed up of trying to watch the door pins to see if they've dropped every time I lock up and walk away!

I fitted some 5x7's in my front doors. only had to cut abit of the door, they sit in the original place. There JBL, loads better than standard. Aint got a clue bout ur lights but i'am sure mine flash when unlocking anyway so your probably not making a mod put actually fixing a problem.

Hi Lee,
They don't flash at the moment, cos it's not operating from an alarm, it's simply one of those remote relays that replaces the standard central locking relay. They don't flash the indicators, but it's something that's bugged me for ages, so I'm trying to find a way round it!

Hi Ben,
I'd love mine to flash too cos i'm always running back to check if i've locked my car or not! If you find a way of doing it could you post it on here for us plz :) oh yeah, have you got round to making any more white dials yet?
Cheers
John

Ben, you can make them flash but only once for locking / unlocking.
The standard relay for remote central locking hasent got a module for the repeaters.
The easy way is to connect the relay to the hazard switch, but I havent tried that.
So good luck and hope you get it. :) but it will only flash once ;)

Hey Sven that's exactly what I tried!

I traced the wires from the relay that send a signal when the locks are openning/closing, and I found the wires at the back of the hazard lights switch that send power to the indicators (seperate wires for left & right sides) but wiring them together shorted out the hazard lights fuse when I put the hazards on. Until then it worked! So I'm half way there! Just have to find other wires for the indicators. I'll try again this weekend!

Sven has worked it out chap, spoke to him about it last night :)

hes gonna wire it up today if he gets chance :)

Never underestimate the power of a 1.2 ;)

Oh, Cool, would be cool to have it working! The next thing I thought of trying was going straight to the indicator relay?

I look forward to the solution!

Wire the locked signal to one side (left...for arguements sake) and unlocked to the other side and you would know (by which side flashed) if you had inadvertantly locked/unlocked the doors ;)

First the connection must be made from the remote relay to another (new) relay, then connected to the hazard switch.
No new relay would do a backing of the power to the remote locking relay witch would then unlock and lock the doors in the same way as the repeaters work.
The only problem that I have now is finding a appropriate wire for the new relay, so I dont need to instal (solder) diodes.
Will post the solution when I figure and test it - it will include a diagram / manual
