Well yesterday I went ahead and fitted my Focal Polyglass components! Wow! What a difference in sound compared to the tiny 4" components I used to have! I've always been sceptical that I'd ever notice the difference in a change of speakers, but they really do seem impressive! Someone said they wouldn't be too good at bass, but I really am impressed by the body they give the sound! I can turn them up as loud as I would ever comfortably want to listen, and still have no distortion!
The thing is though, they're 6" speakers, and I wanted to fit them without cutting away any of the door. Luckily the MDF I made the bracket from was the perfect thickness to hold them in the exact place to fit snuggly up against the door without cutting, butthe door cards don't quite fit back all the way now, cos the speakers poke out a bit too much! (Not that it notices!)
How has anyone else fitted 6" speakers? Cutting away at the door?
Also, I though I'd have a go at something I'd been thinking about for a while- wiring the door-unlocking signal to the indicators to make them flash when you lock/unlock the car.
I found the wires on the back of the rcl relay that pulse to 12v for a second when you pop it- yellow for unlocking- grey for locking-, and found the wires on the back of the hazard lights switch - one works the right, another the left- and temporarily wired them together!
Obviously not being electronically minded, I had an idea this was a bit daft!
It worked one way- as in the indicators did flash when the doors were unlocking, but the other way- operating the hazard lights- just made a fzzz noise and burnt out the fuse!
So now it's back to normal again! I'll try and think it over better and maybe give it another go some time! I'll try the back of the indicator relay, or find another wire elsewhere that goes to the indicator bulbs.
Any thoughts on how to do this, from anyone who knows anything about electronics?! I'm fed up of trying to watch the door pins to see if they've dropped every time I lock up and walk away!
