...can you jack up a started car and rev it? I want to find out where a hissing noise is coming from, but I just want to make sure it won't fall off the stands while i'm under it!

Lol, yes. Just make sure its pretty secure on the stands before doing so as you should do anyway before getting under it with the engine switched off.
