General this is what happens when your brakes fail

You will always have full braking, if the vacuum servo fails(power assist) you still have full braking you just have to stamp the pedal harder. Oh and ABS can fail also. As said very rare thing to happen.

So if... and its a BIG IF, all braking was lost in this instance its likely a total loss of brake fluid, broken pedalbox assembly, some other megga catastrophic failure, for that to happen without physical warning (ignoring the ABS fail warnings mentioned and said to be ok by the OP's garage IIRC) Pretty much impossible? And wouldnt an ABS fail result in loss of ABS and not total loss of brakes?

Exactly . You would even get a warning when fluid is low, or if there is an air lock.
