This problem is very hard to describe, so I will be using a little allias. You all know how the water temp gauge looks like I presume. The lowest temp indicated is 50 Celsius and it is point one. Point two is the little mark just above (Estimated temp there is 70C). This point I will name as “PP” (comes from the very intuitive “Problem Point” )

Well, all good so far. Now down to the problem.
Starting the car in the morning is never a problem. The way to my work each morning consists of a mixture of conditions. The total length I travel is 24km (15miles). The first 2-3 KM are under very loose traffic, keeping an average speed of 80km/h lets say. The next 15km part consists of many many traffic lights and a bit of traffic. Stop and go is pretty close to how it is. Shortly after this part begins the engine temp gauge reaches the PP. At that point the engine struggles to keep idle and a few seconds later it stalls. Starting is again is not hard, I just need to give it a bit of gas to keep it running (otherwise it stalls straight again). Now, if the road opens up, and the temperature drops, no more stalling occurs. If I remain under traffic and the temp raises even more (above PP) then again no problems. The problems continue only if the traffic is modest, in a way that the temperature neither increases nor decreases. In any case, every time I hit the PP I need to hit the gas and keep the revs up in order to prevent the car from stalling!
Some more interesting symptoms that may help some of you advising me on this are: During the first moments of hitting the PP, the engine starts to momentarily loose rpms but does not stall yet. If at that point I step on the brakes or turn the steering wheel then the engine stalls immediately. Otherwise it stalls a few seconds later. This is particularly annoying because it usually happens when I attempt to park, and it is much worse when I am in reverse.

I know that all this was probably tiring to read, but it is a strange problem that is bugging me a lot! :bang:

Some other things you can help me with are:
The normal temp of the car is around 65C !!! is that normal? In traffic though it does raise to about 95C.
The VVT as far as I know only works when a certain temperature is reached. Could this be somehow related to my problem?

Honestly I am expecting your help on this one, cause the mechanic does not know what it is!!!!

Find an exorcist!!!!

I dont know what to tell you to check!!Did you had your engine washed recently?Any water at the sparkplug area?

HAHAHHAHA! yeah, probably I should name the car Emily Rose!

When I first got the car, I had this problem with water in the spark plugs because the stupid previous owner washed the engine but I fixed that 7.000km ago. On top of that, I have changed the sparks. So I dont think its related.
At this point, let me point out that all filters have been changed twice since then because I thought that you need to service the car every 5.000km.

Today I think my B got angry that I told u about this prob.
On my way home from work it kept on stalling everytime I let it idle!
I stopped to pick up some stuf from the supermarket and when i tried to leave the parking lot, it stalled and left me stopped in the middle of the road with other cars comin.. The **** thing is that to restart it at night means that u are also left with no light for a few seconds.. Rather dangerous I noticed!
I really need to sort this out fast..

It would not hurt to liberally spray some carb cleaner down the inlet manifold as mentioned on a recent thread here:eek:

The engine could be recieving a signal from somewhere to reduce the ammount of fuel being pumped through the injectors. This could be the idle control valve, the O2 sensor, engine temp sensor, the injectors could be dirty or as said previously the air flow meter/throttle body could be dirty.

If mine I would clean everything out, add some injector cleaner & check all electrical contacts on the parts mentioned, then look at the ign parts if still the same.

There are lots of possible causes, so just a matter of trying to find which one

Sounds like the thermostat to me. They should sit at the middle of the gauge all the time (after warming up).

Also clean the throttle body by spraying some carb cleaner onto the butterfly valve. (remove the intake hose and that is the first thing you see). i would do it with the engine off and scrub with a toothbrush or something.

I dont think B do that. They move up and down following the temp.Or mine is broken  ?
