if your a new driver then the 1.2 8v by far is the best imo

Enough power
Will take a beating
Safe engine so not the end of the world if the cam belt goes
Low insurance

1.3 multijet diesel, cheap to tax (£30-35 a year) cheap to insure and service. 62.5mpg combined. Is a 16v turbo with more than enough power to motor along and can be tuned relatively easily, timing chain so no faffing about with cambelts get the dynamic as comes with electric mirrors cd player and aircon.

Down side is only in the mk2b and later and because of the advantages they hold there value much, much better than the petrol cars

dont, buy a fiesta or a clio instead, puntos more trouble than they are worth, all the things you can read up about them on the net are true, so many people with bad experiences, and hands in there pockets, wish id never bought mine

<sarcasm>fantastic advice, because no Renault has every been badly built! And non of them suffer from catastrophic electrical faults, and even if they did parts are Soooooo cheap. Oh and Ford again never built a car with problems!<\sarcasm>

The fact that there are literally millions and millions of puntos built I would expect there to be lots of people with problems any fiesta will cost a lot more than a punto for the same age and mileage and have higher insurance costs for a number of reasons, and the Clio will fall a part from the cheap materials Renault use and then cost a bomb for new parts unlike the fiat who have relatively cheap prices for spare parts.

If your looking as a mk2 punto then you are looking at an old car, whoever made it doesn't really matter they all have the potential to either be brilliant or be a total money pit!

I guess you bought the latter because probably didn't give the car a good thorough inspection before you bought it

Cheers lads for the advice.

the insurance for me doesnt vary that much for all engines, but its looking like a 1.2 16v but there seems to be a shed load more 8v around!, i like the sound of the hgt but if it drinks fuel with the way fuel is going its gonna be a no no!!.

End of the month is time to leave me little seicento and get a mk2 punto, been looking got round 800, should get one between a w and a 51 for that

Thanks #
paul
