Technical Think I have found the source of the noise - but how do you fix it?

Hi all,
I was getting annoyed with what I thought was the tappets ,on my '94 Cinq, so decided to get them out today and clean then, etc. But when I removed the rocker cover and had a look inside it, and there is another piece of metal on the inside, which I think is there to evenly displace the oil when you put it in. The only thing is one end of this piece of metal has come away from one of the rivets and I can see one of the tappets has been hitting it and think this may be that cause of the noise as when you listen, you can tell its only one tappets making the noise. So I was wondering if it would do any harm to remove it, because it wont go back onto the rivet, or does anyone have a better idea?

Ive loaded some pictures up that shows you the good end of the rocker cover, that bad end and the whole thing.

I would be drilling the rivet out and if I couldn't get a new rivet in, I would put a self tapper in.

Alternatively, there are loads in scrappers.

Yer I was going to do that if I cudn't fix it, but followed rallycinq's advice and fixed it, but tapping still remains , never mind

sspent ages trying to stop my old 899 cinq from being tappy, never managed, even with new tappets etc. just decided it liked being tappy in the end and lived with it. Was always much worse when cold i found

impossible to completely remove the noise, but possible to quiten down the noise, if u follow rallycinqs advice carefully.

This could prove expensive tho, as a tappet cost around 15 quid each.

Thanks all for you comments, but this didnt fix the noise , I no the noise will not completly go, but to be honest, it sounds sh*t. But I'm not giving up, and when I find a soulution, everyone will no , like that will ever happen
