As i put in my guide, any one who has recently purchased a used 500 should check if it still has a plastic pipe thermostat still fitted and if so even if it seems to be sound and in good condition CHANGE IT ANYWAY- to prevent these sort of instances from happening to them!. for the sake of a £30 quid part it just aint worth it!.
