HI to everyone. I have bought the new Tipo, and I was wondering; Has anyone had problems with the new TFT display on other fiat cars?

Moderator's Note: As there is no section for the new Tipo as yet, this question is being asked here as by far the greatest number of TFT displays will be in the latest 500's.

Re: Factory build issues

I think the TFT display used in the 500's is a different design to that used in the new Tipo, but someone might be able to say if they've had problems with it. I've not read of any though.

Unfortunately because we do not have the new Tipo available in the UK yet, nobody will be able to comment directly about issues with the Tipo TFT display unless they live in other parts of Europe where the Tipo is already available to buy.

:)

Re: Factory build issues

Certainly I don't remember having seen any great number of posts relating to TFT-specific problems on those 500's that have it fitted; as yours is by definition a very recent car, then I'd certainly expect your dealer should do whatever is necessary to resolve it.

If there are any 500 owners with TFT screen issues, this is your chance to tell us all about it.

The problem occured after the software update that i didnt ask at the official FIAT dealer. The TFT display showing how many miles or km has the car keeps blinking. If i change it to fuel consumption or other statistics from the on board comp its ok.The explanation was that they haven't finished the update because FIAT dosen't have it yet.I am waiting them to call me :)

This is very similar to the well-known proxi alignment issue that affects Fiats right across the range; and not just those with TFT displays. The mileage reading is stored digitally both in the body computer and in the display; if the two mileage readings differ, then the display flashes.

The fix is a software update process known as proxi alignment (IIRC that's the correct italian spelling) which brings the two mileages back into synchronisation; my guess is that, as the Tipo is so new, Fiat haven't rolled out the software to do this to the dealerships yet (n).

I've no doubt the issue will be resolved in time, but in all honesty I doubt there's much you can do but wait - and keep pestering your dealer.

From my experience the PROXI alignment does not actually alter the mileage of the modules but will actually make sure all modules are configured to work together correctly. When I fitted my 2nd hand instrument cluster the mileage stayed at the donor figure after alignment.

As far as I know it will flash if there is a comms issue in the CANBUS system and it could be a very minor issue, however if you restart the car it should clear.

Exactlly what jrkitching said.Fiat dealer called me twice only to tell me what i alredy knew from your explanation.Thank you jrkitching and all forum members

It's a straight swap! I used the guide for changing the LEDs in the speedo to see how to remove it, just a few torx screws.

Don't you have to have fiat code it to the car? I am seriously considering changing mine out having now seen the digital displays.

It does require a PROXI alignment and mileage adjustment, both tasks which can easily be carried out on MultiECUScan! Make sure if you buy a second hand one like I did that it has a lower mileage than your own car as you can only advance the mileage on the cluster you CANNOT reduce it for obvious reasons!

Thanks, do Fiat do the alignment and is it expensive. I have the option of a new TFT speedometer and can then obviously adjust it to my mileage, or will the ECU automatically update it?

Not sure about using a brand new one because the prices are ridiculous I didn't even consider it.

Fiat can do a PROXI alignment but whether they will and how much they will charge is another thing because the TFT is not technically made for your car.

Thanks for the replies, I have now bought a new and boxed TFT speedometer (£170 shipped) and will wait its arrival. Will enquire with Fiat if they can fit it and if so, whether the warranty is affected.
