Went to go get a replacement clutch jobby as i had a rusted clutch plate which was eating up clutch cables like fat kids eat cake.

Anyways, i was overcharged by £91 as the bloke accidentally entered £434.19 into the card machine, rather than £343.19. I only entered my PIN as the ammount is not shown on the handheld pin entering machine. OK, human error is fine- but then i was refunded this, and we completed the transaction again- meaning £434 is now unavailable on my account for the next few days.

However, the main problem was this. Having not driven my car for a month, i went out for a little spin around the block for 20 mins. When i returned to my street, i couldnt even turn in as the breaks had failed!. I had to pull to the other side. Luckily, this too is a quiet road and i even managed to test the brakes for afew hundred yards. They fail almost everytime, and when they work they are exteremely slow. It also stinks. Could this be something to do with break fluid??

This is a serious negligence and i can only be greatful that i did not need to break urgently, and that i was not travelling at speed. Somebody is coming to my house tomorrow to pick it up and take it to the garage, i can only hope they turn up on time and sort it out promptly.

[edit]Oh, by the way.. this amazing garage was a FIAT garage in Whitton, SW London[/edit]

The clutch is a totally seperate system to the brakes, if it's cable then its not hydraulic. You may be assuming too much if you believe the garage had damaged the brake system. Suggest you wait and see what the other people say first, it could be just coincidence.

The only way I can think of a brake pipe being damaged whilst changing a clutch is if they decided to remove part of the front suspension including wishbone to gain access but that sounds remote. Normally you unbolt one end of the drive shaft and pull it out of the diff housing.
