I dont think it's an MOT fail if the locks dont stay locked. Pretty sure the only thing the door needs to do is open form the inside and stay closed when shut.
If you cant get out first pull of the handle I think it would be though so action is required. Changing is fiddly but not impossible. I bet your Fiat dealer has a lock on the shelf... Last car lock I bought was £170 though.
 
I've never seen an MOT tester lock and unlock the car when mine have been tested.
It's not right, I'm just trying to see why he thinks it would fail an MOT.
They open the doors to check seat belts. Door opening is safety critical in the event of fire so its fair if it fails I feel.
 
Done. Like, an hour ago. For £40 plus my effort. Acquired via partsgateway.co.uk where you ask for the part and breakers answer if they've got it.

Could've got it off eBay too, for a few quid more, from a breaker.

New, the part is £140 and in short supply anyway

Good job. £40 is a result. I suggest you spray the think with a good lock lube as this will help keep moisture away.
