Hi I have just brought a 1999 Fiat Ducatto Autosleeper, 1.9.

I have 2 questions.
First how can I determine what engine it is, other than 1.9TD as per the V5

My other question
The Temperture gauge isnt working, first thought is the sender sensor, but can someone tell me where it is, I can see 2 at the front lefthand side. the right one is connected to the wiring loom the left one isnt connected to the loom and cant see a plug that has fallen out or been disconnected.

Any help would be geateful.

As suggested above look at the VIN plate above the radiator. Engine type will be shown next to the heading "Motore". I would expect to see either 230A3000, or 230A4000. The latter version has catalytic converter, resulting in slightly lower output.

A faulty engine temperature gauge is not uncommon. I think the sensor will be the same as that on my 2.8jtd and other engines. M16 thread, and 22mm spanner size. The two blade connections form a "T". The blade forming the leg of the "T" is for the gauge, and the other is for the over temperature warning. (Earth return.) See LHS of attached diagram.

Do not rush into changing the sensor, try reseating the connector first, perhaps with some contact cleaner applied.

I am not sure about the second sensor. On my engine it is for the ECU, which embodies cooling fan control. Yours could be for fan control, or possibly cold starting injection advance waxstat. An alternative location for cooling fan thermostat is on the vehicle RHS of the radiator. Some cooling fan systems included two fans and a dual radiator mounted thermostat. Others included a two speed fan with a heavy duty resistor for the lower speed.

Morning.
There will be a data plate with an engine number. In my Ducato it is the engine type/series. My V5 also shows a number which is unique.
The plate on my Ducato is under the bonnet in front of the engine bay.
End of my help 👍.
Hi Jockstrap, Thanks for the reply, I have the Vin number, but I need to know what the exact engine it is as I believe there are several varients, a 80hp and 90hp.
Any ideas.

Thanks Communicator, I have had another look and found 3 sensors, 2 side by side but only the one connected to the loom, then another sensor forward of these two connected to the loom.

I,ll try tomorrow to re-seat the plugs first then if still not working I,ll take each one out and check to see if they have a part number to see I get the right ones.
My vin number is ZFA23000. Based on what you have said I presume its the 90hp engine. ?????? Or am I assuming.

NOT the vin.
The plate will have an engine/motore number.
The vin doesn't have the information you want.
