Technical temprature guage fault

Hope you can help me my temp guage doesnt go above the base line very often when it does it flickers up and down can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this problem . cheers

Your thermostat could be jammed open. That should be your first check.

where is the thermostat on a 2.4td hlx?

Remove it and check the valve. It should be closed. Put it in a pan of water and heat it. The valve should open before the water boils.

Check negative pole to chasis....!
