Dear forum members,

as a owner of a 1995 Tempra 1.6 IE SW from Holland I have a problem. The car doesn't run stationary , it does but it danses up and down but stays on. After giving gas/petrol it remains dansing but at higher revs. After a minute it remains at one rev (abou 4000) but dipping causes it to start all over again.

Any answers to the problem?

Things done

1. reset ECU
2. Stationary engine works
3. Checked BPM sensor and cleaned, it ran a little better
4. Removed all connectors and were all clean
5. Cleaned ECU mass on engine side
6. Checked all vacuumhoses and air inlet for leaks

Extra info; in the past it had the standard problem of suddens dips in speed and instant pickups during driving around 100 120 kmh.

Engine starts at first start.

Thanks for any info

Maarten

Dear Mutanga,

found the problem, it was the electr. engine which runs the idle which wasn't working.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Thanks!!

A lot of Tipos seem to have a problem with the engine speed rising and falling when idling - I think this is what you are describing and it is certainly the problem I had. As you say, my problem was traced to the (Bosch) IDLE ACTUATOR on the side of the fuel injection, this is a stepper motor that pushes out a piston to control the idle speed. I changed mine and it was fixed instantly. Unfortunately the Fiat price is around £240, I got one from the 247spares website for £40.
