Started work on the Tempra today.
Main job is to see if we cn sort the turbo, as this is really the biggest job to do.
started with removing all the boost pipework, all of it was fairly oily inside, including the air fliter and the inside of the inlet manifold was covdered too. no wonder it failed emmisions! Im now certain the problem is the seal on the bearings is split alloying the oil being pumped to the turbo to be sucked through the whole system. this would be all the pipework, intercooler, inlet manifold and its even down the atmospheric pressured pipework from the filter box. Plan on getting it all out and giving it a good wash. then a good black to back so it looks nice after.
Oil on the rocker cover was diagnosed to be a non sealing oil filler cap. new one to be sourced and the other binned. as this is also covered think i will take the cover off and clean and perhaps paint/polish so it looks nice too.
After removing all the pipework the task was then to remove the power steering pump as mentioned in the porter manual. Theres a PDF copy on here if you need one, covers all tempras/tipos pretty much. It was pig to do as the bolt that hold it onto the braket are under the inlet manifold.
Managed to get the two end bolts off that hold the inlet manifold in place. ticht to break off but spun off by hand after that. think that was the two, i wondered why it wasnt budging.. theres two morre under the two centre ports. no enough room to get a spanner in from the side, so i had to build up an extension approx 7inches for the ratchets. managed to wriggle it in from behind and locate it on the bolt. then couldnt get the ratcher onto it! annoyed and running out of time i tryed removing it but the extension came appart and the socket and half of the extension fell below. Pokeable with a long screw driver but not retrivable. And that was the end of the engine work for today!
Returned from a victorious game of fottball and decided to clean the interior dash/plastics as they were quite faded. qucik dust off and out with the back to black. now shines lovely front middle and back
Tomorrows job..
retrieve socket
remove manifold
figure out how to get the exhaust mani off
remove it
get at the turbo
obviously this goign to be easier said than done.
Will put some pics up soon
