Nope the car should run about that temp, what model is it, and i assume the fan kicks in to keep it at that temp.
Also remember that ther is a HUGE amount of enegry being generated by the engine, the cool air wont make that much diff when the car is at a standstill as it isnt being forced through the radiator to cool it.
If i remember rightly the rad fan doesnt even kick in until 103 oC so that shows you that FIAT deems that as the optimum temp for the engine.

yep i agree, thats where it should stay if you leave it at idle.
I think i noticed that when i took off my thermostat to free it up and clean it that it indicated on the side 88 degrees, i presume that's the point where the engine's happiest and the fan kicks in above that to maintain optimum temperature.
thats the temp the thermostat should open at

sorry for bringing back such an old thread but i have some questions according the coolant gauge...
the car is a 97 bravo 1.4 12v..it had its thermostat changed 1.5-2 years ago with an original one from an authorized Fiat dealer...i saw the pic with the gauge and i must say that when i start the engine the arrow goes to the first little line after the big middle line ,then the thermostat opens and the arrow goes 2 lines beneath the middle one until it goes up in the middle and stays there...exact 9 o'clock sometimes 8:59 when i stand still the arrow passes the middle line and between the first and second one the fan starts working...this happens when the cooling system is in cooling mode not heating...today was 30 degrees C... but i remember during winter where I had the heater on the arrow stays 2 lines below the middle one and when i travel outside the town,the arrow plays from these 2 arrows below the middle one it goes to the middle line then falls back and so on and so forth...sorry for my BAD BAD english but i think you got the idea...is this normal??for the fan to start between the first and second line after the middle??or am I for a new thermostat???it hasnt overheated ever since i changed the thermostat and because i saw a colleagues car and thought i should ask...thanx in advance...
